I have just returned to Substack from the weekend!
Hello all. I write a lot about grief. My mother passed last year and I had a lot of complex feelings around our less-than-awesome relationship; it brought me here. Like a lot of artists/writers, I’m sensitive to the world around me, and I feel like I’m always grasping at the nuance - trying to make it tangible, I suppose. So I write about loss and life’s nuances..and healing (as time goes on).
Secondly, I am a subscriber, but for some reason I cannot vote unless I come back to the app, and I wonder if it is a mobile glitch?
As for voting... hmmmm. I have definitely noticed a few differences in the mobile app vs web applications, but not that one. Let's see what happens with the next poll and maybe we can troubleshoot and figure it out :)
Ciel, wow I wasn't entirely sure from your writing how long ago your mother had passed. One year is very recent. Very glad that you are here and sharing the rawness and complexity with us all. Grief is all at once so personal yet so universal, I feel sure that your unique perspective on it is meant to touch someone(s) very deeply - right when they need it.
As for monetizing, that's such a tricky question. I'm so new as well so I want to be sure everyone has access to get a flavor of what I'll be writing - so all my stuff is free. I did however turn on the paid option, so if someone is feeling generous and wants to purchase a subscription then they do have that option :)

My topic is inner conflict resolution: how to release shame, guilt, fear and anger to feel at peace with yourself.
My approach is intimate, because what I write is based upon my own experience.
I am sure you will love it when it comes out.
Here is my Newbie questions: is there a specific point where it becomes legit to monetize what I write?
