Aerospace. Diversity. Passion. A place to follow along with a day-job dropout while I navigate the process of building something new and writing a book.
Welcome!
Greetings, fellow travelers and friends. This will be a space for marking my journey and keeping you informed along the way as I write my first book.
It will also be a space for challenging sometimes deeply held definitions of normal and leaning into change as the lover and companion that it is.
If you’ve ever seen something in your life end, or die, or change, then welcome. You’ve come to the right place.
Introduction
Rags to riches stories are popular because they make us feel good. It feels deeply human to have compassion for the main character who was dealt a crappy hand in life by no fault of their own. It feels wholesome to experience anger towards the people who caused the hardship. And it feels hopeful and satisfying and just as we watch these suffering souls rise up and overcome all the obstacles put in their way.
As nice as that all sounds, that’s just not really how my story goes.
In my youth I got caught up in a years long effort to rebel, thereby creating my own crappy hand from-scratch. Though it’s true that I was young and did not or could not understand the real and serious and adult consequences that were to come, many of the steep obstacles I’ve had to overcome were overarchingly self-inflicted.
Often, the real reasons for our hardships can never quite be sorted out as neatly as we’d like them to. But regardless of the source, aren’t the need to overcome difficulties and deal with change pre-requisites to being human? An annoyingly constant part of life? A reoccurring theme that we wish we could remove from the script?
That certainly seems to be the case.
So what are we going to do about it?
How do we make this easier? More predictable? Less painful?
How can we be more successful in life, in our careers, in our families, and waste less time dealing with hard stuff?
