Quiet Whisper of the Wind

Do you know the quiet whisper of the wind?

I’m talking about the one you hear through the open window, the one that reminds you that stepping outside and putting your feet in the grass might make everything better.

The subtle soundtrack for your afternoon walk. The one that rustles the leaves so that the sunlight dances magically through the canopy. Do you know it?

I’ve been wondering if the whisper of the wind is born from the same place as the song that dances, lightly calling me to write, darling write. The one that tells me gently, but with a regularity that I can’t ignore, that it is time.

But what about love?

Does love sing like the wind too? Is it also magical and faint in the way you can miss a rainbow if you aren’t paying attention?

I thought it would be different. Louder, firm, distinct. Something I could touch and hold and see.

Is it love if it only rustles the leaves enough to make the sunlight a bit more beautiful each day?

Is it love if it only reminds me to take off my shoes and walk on rocks? To touch the soles of my feet to the riverbed?

What if it only makes the days feel a tad easier to bear? What if it only calms my spirit? Or grounds my soul? And heals my heart? Is that enough? Is that love?

What if I can only measure it by knowing that days with them will be better?

I don’t even know how to miss them when they are not near, so is this love? How do you miss the wind, anyways?

If I could live in a world where I knew the wind would always be there, whispering to me, I hope it wouldn’t be wrong to say ‘Yes, I want to live there.’
